THE CAMERAMAN'S REVENGE

Russia, 1912, 13'

An elaborate fable involving voyeurism, interspecies insect sex and adultery.

Stop-motion animation has carved a unique path for itself in cinematic history as it encompasses diverse techniques and innovative ideas. Ladislav Starewicz's The Cameraman's Revenge is no exception.

By using (dead) insects as puppets to portray a human love triangle, Starewicz manages to shock audiences on multiple levels with elements of sexual voyeurism and infidelity.

With elements of humour and horror, The Cameraman's Revenge is an important creation in cinematic history that remains contemporary and innovative to this day.

FETICHE 33-12

France, 1933, 38'

A hand-made stuffed dog puppet comes to life when the poor woman who is making him sews a teardrop inside his chest. A human and sentimental story with extravagant visions.

This is the original version conceived by Ladislav and Irène Starewicz before suffering distribution cuts.

In 1933, they produced and directed a film of about 1000 metres, under pressure from the distributors, the length was greatly reduced, and it became “Fétiche Mascotte/The Mascot”, the first episode of a series. Recently, the only granddaughter and owner of the rights of Ladislav and Irène Starewicz films, took to putting the original film back together from a series of reels of “The Mascot” distributed in the UK and the USA, and from the negative of “Gueule de bois”, as well as from footages kept in their archives.

In 2012, the original version found once again its 1933 length and editing, hence the title “Fétiche 33-12”.
